Ivan Chiarelli
(São Paulo 1981)
Composer and performer, I’m a UNESP alumnus, former fellow of the Spanish Ministry of Culture at the CNDM/Madrid, and a composer awarded at the 3rd Gilberto Mendes Composition Contest (Festival Música Nova/Brazil). My works have been performed in different parts of the globe, including Brazil, Germany, France, Switzerland, Argentina, Colombia, and Korea, and I have collaborated with artists such as Alter Ego Ensemble, Leonardo Labrada, Carol Neumann, Flavia Mielnik, Grupo PIAP, Orquestra Sinfônica de Santos, Augusto Moralez and Matteo Bonanni. Co-founder of the invisibili(cidades) sound collective, I also frequently collaborate with the NME, which I directed between 2015 and 2016.
//
My focus are narrative structures in music, the relations between musical form and content. My research works with the inclusion of daily acoustic events into musical contexts, and aims to incorporate elements of non-European, and particularly Japanese musical tradition in the process of creation. As a sound artist, I strive to work with different supports and spaces: concert music, performance, site-specific installation, audiovisual media, theater.
